AAIB Report

On December 7th the AAIB report into the mid air collision between the Cessna 402C G-EYES carrying 2 crew, + 2 passengers and a Rand K2 G-BOLZ with pilot aboard on August 17th 2008 will finally be published.  We have been through 2 drafts of the report until ultimately arriving at their final document.

For those of you who, like me, have never read an AAIB report before it makes for 50+ pages of interesting reading.  I struggled to interpret the contents impartially and was constantly being reminded of the remit of the AAIB, 'not to apportion liability, merely to establish cause in  an effort to prevent a similar incident happening again'

Well, you draw you own conclusions but for my money, having re-read it many times, it would appear to me that there are very few individuals in a position of authority with a 'duty of care' responsiblity that are gingerly handing the 'smoking gun' around like a hot potato....and when the music stops ?????
